TRAIN TALK

STAZIONE - STATION
PARTENZE - DEPARTURES
BINARIO (BIN) - TRACK

RITARDO - LATE TRAIN - If your train is running late there can be a number telling you how many minutes late it will be.

BIGLIETTO - TICKET

BIGLIETTERIA - TICKET SELLERS
Not all ticket sellers speak English, so it's helpful if you write down your destination and train time to show at the window so the sales person will know which train you want. If you need information about which train to take, you will usually need to go to the Informazioni area, especially in large stations.
SOTTOPASSAGIO - UNDERGROUND PASSAGE TO GET TO TRACKS
CARROZZA - THE TRAIN CAR OR COACH NUMBER WHERE YOU'LL FIND YOUR SEAT.
POSTO - SEAT NUMBER
When the train arrives at the station, look for your carrozza number and board that car.
If you’re taking a regional train, before you board you must validate your ticket – your ticket will probably say Biglietto treno ordinario da convalidare on it. These tickets are good for 2 months so that's why you need to validate it when you use it. There are no seat assignments on regional trains so if you see an empty seat next to someone else, just ask “e’ libero?”, is it free. If the answer is si, you can sit there.
If you need to take a local bus when you arrive at your destination rail station, the bus station is often right by the station. If there is no special biglietteria near the buses, look for a tabacchi shop. That is where you usually buy local bus tickets.
